1) Creating grunge brushes is a cool thing. I learned that creating a brush from something like a rusting wall is a really easy technique that take little time. I never knew that you could just cut a piece of a textured picture and turn it into a brush!

Final Image Book Pictures

So this is how my book ended up tunring out! Im very satisfied with it besides the two pages that didn't get binded in right... wah wah wah. But I really enjoyed making these images, making this book and looking at everone else's.
Next time I make a book I think im going to bind it in a different/ more professional way, other than that I worked my ass off and I am proud of the final product!

1) First photoshop art building demo- I never did masking before so the tutorial that kate did with masking out parts of the building to put our patterns on top of it today was very helpful. I just snatched a terrible image off google images of a pattern and did this...

2) Ward Jenkins tutorial! - Ward gave us a very useful and very interesting tutorial on how to color your drawings and animations. He showed us how to eliminate the white from our drawings and add color to just certain areas

3) In class selection tut.- We learned a lot today about selection and the ebest ways to do it! a lot was review but it still helped to watch so I could learn new things. In the refine edges menu I learned a lot more about the contraction bars that I didn't know before.

4) using the tools and tips of the psdtuts site is very helpful. The photoshop brushes page is no exception. Learning about all the different types of brushes there are available and creating new brushes is a very important skill that I need to work on a lot more

5)Creating your own custom brushes is a lot harder than it looks but bittbox helps make it a lot easier showing step by step the best way top go about doing this complicated process. I learned that using a white transparancy and defining the color I want is the key!

1) The Role of Sketching in the Design Process- I think this is a very good tut just because I have always argued the importance of drawing it out on paper before designing... Drawing your design out by hand first gives you the layout you want in the fastest way and it also is the fastest way to decide between design types. The author puts out all the pros of drawing out your designs by hand first in a very good and persuasive way!

2) Creating A Cool Vintage Collage Design In Photoshop - This is a cool and interesting project to do, although I probably would do it differently. This tut gave me some tips in layering and brushes that can come in handy in the process of creating this style of work.

3) How to Simulate Fractals in Photoshop- this tutorial was helpful in its ways of showing me how to copy paste and rotate images quickly proffeciantly. I don't think I would ever want to actually try this because the amount of work you do to make a fractal-style image isn't worth the outcome.... in my opinion.

4) Using Ink Drops in Your Digital Compositions - I think this at least is a really cool idea that gives me inspiration for a project in my art 118 class where we are supposed to create a full bleed design and I think this would be a good background.... so yep. really cool ideas

5) Create Spectacular Concept Art in Photoshop - I treid to attempt this one and now my computer won't load my photoshop.... so I'm going to have to do it another time... I like the idea of blending areas and landscapes you normally wouldn't see togther so I really do want to try it!

1) How to Create Vector Spirograph Designs -
I never realized how fun and easy it is to make these spyrograph designs. Just by copying and rotating little ellipses you can make basically any spyrograph design you want.

2) How to Create Vector Clouds with the Gradient Mesh Tool - I thought this tutorial would be a lot different but it turns out it only helps you with the usage of the gradient mesh tool. I don't really like the author that did this tutorial so I'm going to try and avoid her posts in the future!

3) Illustrator’s Pen Tool: The Comprehensive Guide - Maaahhh the dreaded pen tool returns once again. This time its by a different author and its comprehensive on illustrator. It has a lot of great information and helps even the best with the pen tool! It gives a wealth of very important and useful information, including information on hotkeys and just about anything else that has to do with the pen tool

4) A Comprehensive Guide: Illustrator’s Paintbrush Tool and Brush Panel - Once again I feel dumbfounded on how much I didn't know about the Brush Tool/Panel. This is so much you can do and so many styles of brushes you can make. I saw a tutorial a while back on how to create trees using the brush tool and didn't know what to do but now I think I could almost pull it off... almost

5) Create a Vibrant 3D Pixel Type Treatment - This was really cool and actually was easier than I thought it was going to be, All I did was downloaded a pixelized font and gave it a 3d form and a shading on the font from bright in the front to darker in the back! It was FUN.

1) A Comprehensive Introduction to the Type Tool - I learned a lot in this tutorial but most of the information was review. I didn't know the names of Kearning and Tracking but I have used them a lot. Also before this tutorial I didn't know the difference between normal bold and italics and Faux italic and bolds and now know its just a less extreme version of the normal versions.

2) Using Adobe Kuler to Enhance Your Photoshop Color Workflow- I had never even heard of Adobe Kuler before so everything on this page helped me a lot! I really like the color pallete exchange idea, its a cool way to explore out of your own comfort zone

3) Photoshop’s Pen Tool: The Comprehensive Guide - I think any help given on the pen tool is needed the pen tool has by far the most quirks to it that take mastering than most tools.deeper st This is somewhat basic information until the end when it kinda goes into more advanced techniques, but I would reccomend it!

4) A Comprehensive Introduction to Photoshop Selection Techniques - This is a very in depth introduction to selection techniques. It gave me a few useful techniques that I also wondered how to do such as using the section tool in hard to distinguish background/foreground pictures. It showed me new information to me on layering and how to deal with overlapping in multi-layered pictures

5) Useful Applications for the Clone Stamp Tool - I really like the clone tool but didn't know a lot of things I could do with it apparently! I took the tutorial of how to clone a mini-version of a car or something. I used the same picture they used on the tutorial page and just did step by step what the instructions said. I took me while but I finished it and it look almost acceptable....

I really enjoyed this assignment! I liked learning more about Mike Perry and discovering new work by him and people he believes in. I liked working with type and creating a font inspired by Mike Perry. After doing this assignment I decided that I need to buy Over and Over and Hand Job. I really liked using live trace and learning better how to color with live trace!

1.) Pen Tool - So I was kinda struggling with the pen tool and the adobe live docs are the best way to help get a grip of things in my opinion so I just read up about drawing with the pen tool. I like the possibilities you have with the pen tool but it just takes a while to get used to.

2.) Live Paint- This video was really helpful on all the basics of live paint! It shows you the best way to use the tool and all the tools that are involved with live paint. I learned a lot about live paint that I didn't know and it reviewed a lot that I did know.

3.) Seven helpful techniques that every adobe illustrator artist should know- This page was really helpful, it had a bunch of tips that are useful. the screen shot is the tip I didn't know how to do before..

4.) Blend tool a comprehensive guide- I didn't know that much about the blend tool apparently after checking this out. The blend tool has a lot more usage than I thought! I think everyone should at least check this out if they are at all unfamiliar to the blend tool because it has a lot of information!

5) Putting textures on uneven surfaces- I think this was helpful in someways like showing how to put opacity on certain selected areas of a layer but overall I think it is too unpractical to actually attempt..

The artist I chose to do deeper research on was Mike Perry... obviously by the title of this blog... but anyways, I really liked Mike Perry's work before we had to start this project but I never researched him or even knew that his work I liked was by him! Mike perry does a lot of hand-drawn stuff and a lot of computer generated designs. He also makes books and magazines. His book's Hand Job, and Over and Over are two of his best known books. Over and Over is a collection of pattern based art and is very pleasing just to look at anytime! Hand job is a collection of hand-drawn typography based art which I find amazing. I also wanted to throw in to the class-mates reading this that our Professor Kate is in this book! Mike perry does a lot of work with clothes companys too from Urban Outfitters to the skate company Zoo York. Mike perry obviously by his two books does a lot of typographic art and a lot of pattern art. His pieces usually have a lot of dynamic colors that make it stand out! Mike is works in New York and loves the mid-west!!

Adobe Live Doc's Hooray

I have used the adobe live docs before and I think that it is always helpful to use them. I used them today when I was playing around with stuff on photoshop. I really like how easy it is to find your way around there. I'm not sure really what else to say. Its a helpful part of adobe that anyone can benefit from!

Assume vivid astro focus is one of my favorite art collaborations. They usually make very abstract and very colorful pieces using objects not really seen as much.
I love the explosion of color and neon lights in this piece!

I have no idea who made this or what this is called but I know it is an advertisement for one of the fall tours that these bands played together. I picked this picture because the technique of making the leaves also appear as fire coming off the tree really makes me happy.

This is a piece by Sandy Skoglund Called Revenge of the Goldfish
I really enjoy the contrast differences in color between the goldfish and people and everything else in the room. The technique was a very complicated process considering it was all live action models and ceramic fish. I really enjoy the oddness and contrast in this picture..

This is a Piece by Banksy called Leopard
Banksy is probably my favortie artist. I love the way he combines nature with products and consumerism. His work is done illegally by stencil and spraypaint and he is somewhat anonymous. I really enjoy his satire and parody of life, politics, entertainment, consumerism, authority, etc. etc. etc.

This is a piece by Mike Mandel called Emptying The Fridge
This is a really cool and interesting piece by that I don't realy know much at all about. I'm not sure to the technique he used but with the faded fridge items you can tell there was at least some photo editing done.

I have a lot of experience on computers and the internet but not many skills in photoshop/illustrator. I'm in the process of learning the basics of HTML.

I'm excited to learn new things about the adobe programs, learn about graphic design and its process, and I'm excited to be introduced to new artists and collaborations!
